New Nat Geo Phone

Making calls from overseas has been pretty much impossible with your regular cell phone here in America. That’s largely because the technical standards that cell phones use are different here than in Europe…or for the most part they are. I don’t profess to understand all the details why this is so, but I do know that it is useless for me to bring my cell phone when I travel because there is no hope of being able to make a call with it when I am overseas. Which, when you think about it, is really lame.

Well, it seems National Geographic thinks so too and they will start selling a travelphone of their own next month. it The well-known adventure/knowledge organization is partnering with Cellular Abroad to make the National Geographic Talk Abroad Travel Phone, a bar-style GSM phone that also involves a plan and the ability to use the phone in over 100 countries. A CNet report explains.

Unfortunately, it’s not cheap. But it’s a start. Outgoing calls will cost 90 cents a minute, which is steep, but you will have peace of mind being always connected.
