Sleeping in a house that’s also a cave would certainly make an ordinary vacation more… un-ordinary. Here are five places where you can rent a cave:
-
In Goreme, Turkey, The Local Cave House has 9 rooms, 24 hour Internet access, a bitchin’ pool, and a honeymoon suite. Don’t miss the chance to take a hot air balloon tour over the area while you’re there.
-
Set on a 530-acre estate in the middle of the Ozarks, secluded Beckham Creek Cave Haven puts you in touch with Arkansas’ nature while providing modern conveniences. The area features bountiful opportunities for spelunking or day trips. The price varies on the number in your party and the number of nights you stay.
-
In France’s Loire Valley, visitors can rent one of two 18th Century “troglodyte” houses complete with a pool, and within easy access of the major Loire Valley châteaux, nearby woodlands, and more. The flats are available for rental by the week (£215 – £370) or by the night (the B&B rates start at a paltry £35 per couple per night).
-
It’s possible to sleep in a cave hermitage — which look amazingly like a hobbit house — in rural, rural Tibet, but the rooms aren’t really for rent. Rather, sleeping there would be more akin to showing up at someone’s door and begging for a place to sleep. It IS possible, though: Garlichead did it.
-
In many parts of Spain, there are some incredibly beautiful houses carved out of the rocks. Rent one in Cenascuras, a small suburb of the small village of Gor, in southwest Spain.
BONUS: If renting isn’t good enough for you, for a mere $96,000, you can purchase your own, fully-restored cave house only 10 minutes from the center of Urgup in historical Cappadocia, Turkey, a region boasting several cave houses.
