In the never-ending quest to cure jet lag, researchers have turned to a rather unexpected drug: Viagra.
The erectile dysfunction drug was administered to hamsters whose schedule was then interrupted with changes in light patterns consistent with long eastbound and westbound flights.
Researchers discovered that those hamsters who received small doses of Viagra were back to their normal routine much faster than the limp control group. Strangely enough, this only happened when simulating an eastbound flight.
On the other hand, too much Viagra proved somewhat distracting, as you might imagine, and tended to undermine the integrity of the study.
Testing has not yet been applied to humans but when it does, I sure don’t want to be on that plane.
