Having lived the last seven-plus years in New York City, the memories I have now of Seattle are a bit misty. I do know for a fact that I still LOVE the city, that during the Summer, Seattle is heaven on earth, but there are various particulars that I’ve kind of forgotten. Seattle, where I lived for five years about a decade ago, is like a best friend I haven’t seen in a long time. I’m not sure whether he’s changed a lot, and I hope he hasn’t. So it was nice to read this little blurb on Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Pike Place is a unique spot when you compare it to other cities’ tourist draws. Most places in big cities where tourists go are not the places the locals go. Take Times Square or the Empire State Building. Most New Yorkers never or rarely visit them. Not so the Pike Place Market. What makes it unique is that its a big tourist attraction, but it’s also the place that locals still come to shop and hang out. Take a read of this fine little primer on the market, and if you’re in Seattle at some point in the coming months, make sure you drop on by. Pick up some salmon and a cup of coffee and just hang out watching the boats come in.
