Hurling fruitcakes in Colorado

It seems that every holiday these days, there’s a quintessential object that someone wants to heave into the air. Last Halloween, we shared with you the fascination with hurling pumpkins towards the gods. Today, being that Christmas is just around the corner, fruitcakes are the focus of chucking efforts.

The Great Fruitcake Toss is an annual event held in Manitou Springs, Colorado in which participants hurl the seasonal gift as far as possible–either by hand or mechanical device. Apparently some of these notoriously, long-lasting fruitcakes are repeat offenders, the same durable cake appearing year after year in the event.

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes to send a thoughtfully presented gift into the atmosphere, be sure to swing by Manitou Springs on January 5th when this season’s spectacular will be held.
