Armed gunmen kidnap Mexican tourists

Last month I asked whether there is any reason to visit Tijuana, which seems to be getting more lawless and dangerous by the day.

Now the Associate Press is reporting that seven Mexican tourists have been kidnapped at gun point on the road to Acapulco. A witness who managed to escape said armed gunmen held up a companion’s car and forced the occupants into three other cars. Seems like they unloaded on the jacked car as well: Police report 37 bullet holes, the AP says.

What’s being done? Police say they are searching for the gunmen, but have not turned up any leads.

This was one of the first times such an attack happened on the main road leading to Acapulco, which has seen a rise in violence in recent years.
