Lesser-known airline plans for generating revenue

As you’ve probably already heard, American Airlines recently decided to implement a $15 fee for a passenger’s first checked bag. But according to the Onion, that’s not the only new scheme airlines are introducing to try to gin up more revenue. Among the other changes:

  • United-$25 seatbelt rental fee for passengers who didn’t bring their own
  • Frontier Airlines-$20 penalty if passenger is not wearing coonskin cap
  • Southwest-Ten bucks to touch the captain
  • Midwest-$35 to sit in the passenger compartment
