London’s black cabs catching fire

London’s famous black cabs have been catching on fire with frightening regularity this year.

Since the beginning of the year, 12 black cabs have caught on fire while in operation. The most recent occurred last week, prompting Transport of London to order 600 black cabs off the street pending safety inspections.

The cab model in question is Manganese Bronze Holdings Plc’s TX4 models, which admittedly are only a small percentage — 3 percent — of the city’s 21,500 licensed black cabs.

Manganese Bronze has investigated about 250 cabs to date, according to Bloomberg, and so far has not come up with what is causing the fires.

Luckily no one has been injured yet in the fires.
