Hedonism Vacations: Spring Break for adults

Economic woes got you down? Here’s a solution: party nude with the Aussies. A holiday resort in tropical Queensland has planned a month-long bacchinalian for guests to get their naked grooves on.

The White Cockatoo Resort, which is located near the town of Mossman, apparently operates on three levels of functionality: nudist, clothing optional and fully clothed for family fun. These occur at different times of year so that the kiddies don’t get confused from the nudies.

Next March, they are going for a full-scale, adults only party month as a so-called ‘hedonism resort’. I did a little digging and it turns out that the White Cockatoo is just one of dozens of places around the world to take a hedonist vacation.

Essentially, this sounds to me like the type of place where Joe Office would go to fulfill his wildest fantasies: eating food that’s bad for you, walking around naked, drinking in the morning and going all-night clubbing. Like Spring Break for grown-ups.

Photo of the Day (11-19-08)

Yes, this is an elephant balanced on its trunk. David and Chi who captured this image at the Musée and Domaine nationales of the Castle of Fontainebleau in France said this sculpture was part of a larger exhibit. What a wonderful use of a castle. The exhibit looks like it may have been like a trip to some strange wonderland.

Unfortunately, the exhibit ended on November 17. My question is, what happened to the elephant? Where does one store such a piece? It seems that this elephant belongs in the library.

If you’ve been to a fanciful wonderland lately, send us your pictures at Gadling’s Flickr Photo Pool.

What happens when you overload a donkey cart

I don’t usually Laugh-Out-Loud at silly Youtube videos, but I couldn’t help it with this one. I think it’s because the people who are busy trying to unload the cart are totally not realizing the absurdity of the situation (there’s a donkey stuck in the air, let me just ruin it for you).

Bonus for any well-traveled Gadling reader. Can you guess where this was shot?

3M wants to feed you and give you a nice shoulder rub

Travelers passing through Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport on November 25th and 26th will be able to get some soothing pampering, courtesy of 3M (yeah, the Post-It people).

As part of a promotion for their laptop privacy screens, 3M has created a site dedicated to revealing airport secrets.

Airporthavens.com has some fantastic tips, including where to find some free desktop workstations at Miami International, or a hidden lounge at LAX. Visitors can even submit their own hidden airport tips.

The 3M Airport Haven lounge will be open from 8am to 5pm, and you’ll be able to locate it on the 3rd floor of the Atrium at the Atlanta Airport Executive Conference Center. The lounge will feature free Wi-Fi, snacks, beverages and of course, free massages.

I can’t think of a better way to start the crazy travel season than a nice soothing massage and a cold beverage. Can you?

Two Qantas jets collide, but were not carrying passengers

Late last month I wrote a post questioning whether Gadling had it in for Qantas airlines, the national carrier of Australia. It seems that we have posted a lot of negative stuff about the airline this year (well, not a lot of negative stuff, but a fair amount, I guess).

I don’t think we’re being unfair to the Down Under carrier, but it’s just that…things keep happening to it.

Take yesterday, for example, when two Qantas jets collided on a runway outside Melbourne. Luckily, there were no passenger on board. The jets were being towed to a maintenance hangar at Melbourne’s small Avalon Airport. The nose of one plane hit the left wing of the other, says the Associated Press.

One of the planes involved in this collision was damaged in July in a midair explosion.

Alas, I guess it’s just one of those years for Qantas.

Why are these the world’s best airports?
