This shot, from flickr user ashcrowe, was taken five days ago at the We Are One concert held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC as part of the inauguration festivities.
I can come up with three reasons that this photo captures the inauguration perfectly. Number one: people were really, really excited about Barack Obama’s inauguration and all the festivities that surrounded it. Number two: it was absolutely frigid in DC, and those with any exposed skin risked frostbite. And number three: the Washington Mall was so crowded that most people had to watch the inauguration on massive screens.
Still, I’d guess that most of the people who braved the cold and the crowds were happy they did.
