I immediately recognized this photo from Justin Fain as the treacherous steps that lead up to Temple II at the Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala. Site of some of the most impressive ruins in Central America, Tikal is also home to wildlife including howler monkeys, gray foxes, falcons, and toucans. If you can go at sunrise, it’ll certainly be one of the most memorable experiences of your trip– just you, the animals, and the magificent ruins.
