Gadling’s Friday Travel Tunes – Episode 2

I’m told that my taste in music skews towards the minimalist side — a matter that has been a point of contention in more than a few relationships in my life. Quieter tunes, however, can still serve a road trip well.

For me, the perfect road trip music isn’t necessarily the loudest, classic rock station that I can sing to at the top of my lungs with the windows down. Though it’s good to enjoy a good shoutfest once in a while, my favorite songs on the road are those to which I’ve tied memories — Great Lake Swimmers in a stained-glass-windowed apartment in Buenos Aires. The Weakerthans in the back of a pickup truck in Toronto. Meredith Bragg while crossing the Triborough bridge into Manhattan.

It’s transporting in a way, not unlike a well-done road trip.

So this week, enjoy a highly personalized, slightly indie Travel Tunes Episode 2. We’ll be back next week with a few of your suggestions and a lot more hip thrusts.
