Contraband book documents most bizarre items confiscated at JFK

Flavorwire is hosting
another great series of photos from the photographer Taryn Simon, who recently spent almost a week at New York‘s JFK airport capturing images of contraband confiscated by the border security.

Among the prohibited miscellanea are dead birds, disguised counterfeit handbags, a broad range of pills and — obviously — cow dung toothpaste.

More interesting, however, is the manner in which the contraband is presented, each haul presented starkly against a white background, sometimes arranged in geometric patterns and other times presented as a revealed prize. Collected within the Contraband book, a few of the other images can be perused over at Flavorwire.
