Central California’s Alisal Ranch offers “BBQ Bootcamp” for budding grillmasters

Meat. Fire. Pinot Noir. These are mankind’s most basic needs.

If your man- or womanhood could use a little boost, the Alisal Ranch has the solution. From October 27-30th, this historic guest ranch located in the heart of Central California’s wine country is offering its first annual BBQ Bootcamp.

Alisal’s chef Pascal Godé and grillmaster/owner Frank Ostini of The Hitching Post II (of “Sideways” fame) will teach you the secrets to great grilling, including the region’s famous Santa Maria Style barbecue.

The weekend includes a “Meet-your-Meat” seminar and tasting of Hitching Post II wines; special dinner prepared by Godé and Ostini; classes on grilling everything from ancho chilies to tri-tip; spice-blending workshop; breakfast trail ride, Dutch oven cooking demo by the Alisal wranglers, a grill-your-own dinner, and wine pairings by local celebrity winemakers and farmers. There’s even free time to take in a hike, game of golf on Alisal’s Billy Bell-designed golf course, or spa treatment.

BBQ Bootcamp includes a three-night stay in one of Alisal’s Deluxe Cottages with wood-burning fireplace, all meals, ride, and seminars. Be sure to schedule some extra time to visit some of the region’s many excellent tasting rooms, or hit the nearby Danish “village” of Solvang for some abelskivers. Bonus: Santa Barbara (with its newly expanded airport) is only 45 minutes away. A day at the beach is a basic human need, too.
