Cycling capital of Canada announces dates for Victoria International Cycling Festival

According to Pedal, a Canadian cycling magazine, Victoria, British Columbia, is the cycling capital of Canada. It makes sense then that the Victoria International Cycling Festival is being held in Victoria from June 15-July 1, 2012.

The first run of this event happened this past summer from May 27-June 12, 2011, and was met with great success. There are various cycling-related events that comprise the festival, some of which include:

  • A 62 mile (100 kilometer) “Gran Fondo” style Tour de Victoria led by Victoria native and Tour de France veteran, Ryder Hesjedal
  • JumpShip, an invitational dirt jump competition, which showcases some of the world’s best mountain bike riders as they do tricks off gigantic jumps all aboard a floating barge
  • The annual Bastion Square Cycling Grand Prix Criterium, a short and fast closed-loop circuit around the historic area of the city
