We mentined Google maps a while back, as well as
Microsoft’s newest (and uite cool) mapping program Virtual Earth and Local Live, all of whch are really quite mind-blowing when you
thin about how far ths technology has come over the years. I mean, if you project out where all this stuff will go in
the future, well, you’ll be able to go right into your room and discover that you left your wallet on the table.
Well, along these lines, you can now take a look street-level at your home, assuming it has already been mapped
by the folks at Amazon and A9. The
application here was announced a ways back. The company AP was (and I tthink still is) paying people to drive the
streets (all of them) of various cities with a camera mounted atop the car. The camera takes rapid, overlapping photos
of every block, so you can see store fronts or the front of your house…or your old girlfriend’s house. The uses for
this are immense, but just for starters, consider that you are taking a trip to New York City and believe you’ve
discovered some great hotel. Well, check it out on A9 and you might find that it’s a dump. Very cool.
