World's Largest Pillow Fight

Now you’ve got to admit
this is downright silly. In a good way. Some 3659 folks gathered in New Zealand a few days ago, all of them
administered fluffy pillows, with which they engaged in what the Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged was the world’s largest pillow fight , beating the previous
record by 11 um, pillow-fighters.

Now, were all the participants
negligee-clad sorority girls? Alas, no. That really would have made the show worth watching. But despite that drawback,
you have to hand it to the Kiwis, they sure know how to have fun .

The
goal was to do better than the previous pillow-fighting record of 3648 people, set at the University of Albany, New
York, on April 17, 2005.

More on Ugly Americans

Lots of folks are
atwitter over the release of the "World Citizens
Guide
" – which we posted about – that
seeks to help reduce the amount of ugliness Americans export within themselves when they head abroad. Only you can know
xactly what your "AUE" (American Ugliness Export) quotient is, but my guess, esp. if you like fast food and
Hawaiian shirts, is that it’s pretty high.

The guide was underwritten/assembled by the Business for
Diplomatic Action (BDA), a non-profit group funded by big American companies, who are saying the anti-Americanism is
bad for business. It features some 16 etiquette tips on how Americans can help the country by not fulfilling
stereotypes of themselves as brash, loud, annoying, fat, stupid, bossy philistines. Ed Gomez over at SF Gate
examines the subject and finds many of these stereotypes sadly accurate. While, over at the UK Telegraph, Philip Sherwell
probably has the best take on the subject, as he makes the point that it’s not really American tourists who are the
problem, it’s more often the perceptions of American policy…although loud fat Americans don’t help themselves much
either.

So let me put the question out there? Are we fat, loud, bossy, annoying, etc.? Or is it just that
people like to pick on the big guy? Or more, are people in general becoming more like us? I mean, have you ever seen
German travelers? Let’s get the debate started.

Brad Pitt's Green New Orleans

Apparently taking a break
from his rambles across Africa, Brad Pitt is now throwing his substantial celebrity, liberal message muscle behind efforts to improve New Orleans. He has
recently invited the public to submit "green design" ideas as part of a competition aimed at helping rebuild
the hurricane-devastated Big Easy. Yes, Pitt is teaming up with the oxymoronic group Global Green USA on the project,
which says should help turn the catastrophe from calamity into opportunity. Says the steely-jawed Pitt: "Can we
create for these neighborhoods something even better than they had before?"

Pitt will lead a jury of
lesser-peers, including local folk, to select six finalists by July all in the hope of building 10,000 energy efficient
structures in the city. So nice. What would Earth Day be without some celebrity activism?

Eco-Friendly iPod Case

Since it’s Earth Day and all, and because we’ve been
getting lots of comments about our iPod post, we figured you would want to know about how you can listen to your ipod,
protect it from the elements, AND help save the earth…all at the same time.

Well, the Jimi case comes from the good folks at thejimi.com and is all about being
green…even if you can get it in several different colors. The Jimi is made from tough, translucent
polycarbonate (so called "first cousin to bullet-proof glass"), that is 100-percent recycled plastic. There
is also apparently an attached mirror on the backside for the Adonis/Narcissus in you who can’t seem to get enough of
looking at yourself.

The case runs a mere, $26. Not bad for peace of mind and ipod protection.

Friday Funny: TV Turnoff Week

It is my guess that you had absolutely
NO IDEA WHATSOEVER that next week is TV Turnoff Week.
Why is it that you don’t know that? Probably because the videos available here at the always controversial, oft-funny
adbusters.org never made it to air. And besides, you’re just too dam caught up
in who’s going to win this season’s Survivor to pay attention to some squealing activist group. But yes, dear readers,
next week IS TV Turn Off week, and we offer as our Friday Funny a couple of entertaining videos that may, or may not,
get you to Kill Your Television.
