Spring in Whistler

It’s one of my favorite places on the continent…the finest ski area around and also an excellent spot for mountain
biking and general frolic. Budget Travel has got a piece on the
virtues of Whistler in springtime, and all the kick a%$ stuff to do there, including ample wildlife viewing (no, I’m
not talking about Spring Break type wildlife).

New Biking Trails

It’s not flashy, but Dirt World, the mountain bike magazine is featuring a short list
of

new biking trails
around the US. Not many here, but it mentions the recently completed Yellow Loop in Arkansas
and some of the recent work being done at Moab so you can live out your slick-rock fantasies.

Grand Canaria Biking Pics

As we here in the Northeast are getting slammed yet again by the fury of Mother Nature,
these pics came across my screen and
brought a much-needed inspiration about what lies ahead in a few months. They are from the Gran Canaria

Mountain Bike Marathon
, the first ever held. Ah, sunshine. I forget what it was like.

Ode to the Scab

Well, it’s not the prettiest subject in the world, but
someone’s got to deal with it. They can be big and nasty and take on the consistency of beef jerky. And as any mountain
biker knows, they are part of the sport. And so, why not pen an article about the scab? Why not indeed. You might find
this brief , but lyrical treatise to the scab offensive. You might find it enlightening. Either way, you are not likely
to think the same about scabs ever again.

A Softer Way to Hit the Slopes

The Philly Inquirer has a piece on a pretty
neat-o way to hit the slopes.  It’s also
no big secret, since ski-biking has been around for ages.  However, you don’t see it as much
in some areas and Allen Holder shares his first hand experience in Keystone, Colorado where it’s a bit popular.
Quite simply they are bikes whose front and back wheels have been replaced with skis and they’re supposed to be
pretty easy to ride.  I’ve actually never heard of ski-biking before, though the fact that it is around doesn’t
surprise me.  Then again I’m never near the cold weather either.
