Daily deal – Magellan Roadmate 1200 GPS unit for under $50 (after rebate)

by Scott Carmichael on

Brand name GPS devices do not get any cheaper than this – my daily deal for today is for a $50 Magellan 1200 GPS unit.

The product is on sale for $69.99, but currently comes with a $20 mail in rebate, bringing the final price to a penny shy of $50.

The Magellan 1200 is a very basic unit – but despite the low price, you still get all the important features. Pre-loaded on the device are 1.3 million points of interest. The Magellan 1200 comes with a windshield mount and a car charger cord.

There is of course one bit of fine print involved in this deal – the unit is factory refurbished. This means it was once returned to Magellan for any number of reasons, but was returned to its “as new” condition.

According to recent reports, customers who purchase a Magellan unit, but receive it with old(er) maps, are usually eligible for a free map update after calling Magellan.

You’ll find the Magellan 1200 at Amazon.com, where you’ll also find the rebate form required to get your $20 back. Since the product is over $25, you are even eligible for free “super saver shipping”.

Fare alert – Virgin America $38 flights to fun destinations

by Scott Carmichael on

Bored this week? Virgin America has some nice low fares loaded right now for travel to and from San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

At just $38 each way, you can get yourself a round trip ticket for just $97, all taxes and fees included. The prices only seem to be valid for travel in the coming week, so don’t expect $100 tickets during the summer months.

Normally, good fare deals usually involve trips from bad airports to places nobody wants to go, but a day trip from San Francisco to Seattle would probably make for a fantastic way to spend the day.

That’s right – these fares are also valid for same day returns. You could leave SFO at 7:15am and depart San Diego at 8:35, giving you an entire day to enjoy the city. A similar trip can be made from San Francisco to Seattle, leaving the airport at 9:55am and departing Seattle at 8:55pm, giving you plenty of time to visit Pike Place Market and take a ride up the Space Needle.

You’ll find the deals at the Virgin America web site, and don’t forget to bring your laptop or smartphone, because all these flights are currently served by Virgin America planes with WiFi service on board ($9.95 per flight).

As with most deals like this, the longer you wait, the fewer seats will be available at these low prices, so don’t procrastinate too long!

Daily deal – Canon PowerShot SD770IS digital camera for $145

by Scott Carmichael on

My daily deal for today is for the Canon PowerShot SD770IS. This compact 10 megapixel point and shoot camera features a 3x optical zoom lens, with image stabilization.

The SD770IS normally retails for just under $200, but Amazon has dropped the price significantly, down to just $144.95.

The SD770IS has an amazing array of features, from a built in red-eye removal tool to smile and motion detection.

The camera comes complete with USB and video cables, a rechargeable battery pack with AC charger and a 32MB memory card.

Given the insanely small size of the included memory card, you will want to be sure to order an additional card for the camera.

You’ll find the Canon PowerShot SD770IS at this low price on Amazon.com, and since the order is over $25, you’ll also get free shipping.

Daily deal – Altec Lansing iM-237 Orbit MP3 speaker for $25

by Scott Carmichael on

In today’s daily deal you’ll find another of those great products that made the Gadling Top 25 travel products of 2008.

The Altec Lansing iM-237 Orbit MP3 is a portable speaker with enough punch to fill an entire hotel room with clean crisp audio.

The speaker is powered by 3 AAA batteries which can keep the speaker going for almost an entire day.

Included with the speaker is a hard carrying case with clip and a 2.5mm music phone adapter, which allows you to connect the Orbit to phones with a smaller headphone jack, like on some Blackberry devices.

The Orbit MP3 launched last year for $39, but recently dropped in price at some retailers to under $25. You’ll find it at this price at Amazon.com. In the right column on Amazon, you’ll also find a retailer selling it for just $17.49, with $6.98 shipping.

Daily deal – Archos 605 30GB WiFi multimedia player for $135

by Scott Carmichael on

It may be a little late in the day, but if you are reading this, you still have a chance to snag yourself one heck of a deal.

This Archos 605 portable media center has 30GB of storage for your movies, music and photos. In addition to playing your files, the device can also access the Internet using its built in WiFi interface (you’ll have to pay extra to add a browser to the device).

Inside the Archos 605 WiFi is a high definition 800×480 touchscreen display, built in speakers and a nifty little stand.

The Archos 605 WiFi has support for most music and video file formats, and additional formats can be support through optional add-on software packs.

The Archos 605 WiFi normally retails for about $250, but is currently on sale through Yugster.com for just $134.97, with an additional $5 for shipping. The device ships fairly basic, as all you get in the box is the player, a USB cable, headphones and a pouch. A docking station is available for $45, which turns the device into a DVR with built in TV guide and recording features.

As is often with these “one day deals”, when the inventory runs out, the deal is gone. At the moment, the deal is only available for another 12 hours, so don’t wait around too long if you think a portable media center like this could help you alleviate boredom on your next flight!
