Daily deal – iPod travel kit for $14

by Scott Carmichael on

My daily deal for today is perfect for all your iPod/ owners. This Cables2Go travel kit contains 4 separate items, neatly packed away in a pocket leather case.

Inside the case is an AC charger, DC (car) charger, retractable headphones and a retractable USB/Firewire charger cable. The cables will work on all iPod models with a dock connector, but the specifications say it is not compatible with the first, second and third generation iPod. Essentially this means that it will work on any iPod that plays video, and all the Nano versions.

The kit will most likely not work with the iPhone or iPod Touch. At $13.99 this is quite a good deal, and a great way to carry all the parts you need to keep your iPod charged anywhere you have AC or DC power. The user reviews do point out that the headphones are pretty poor, so don’t expect them to replace your current iPod headphones.

The Cables2Go iPod charging kit is available from buy.com, and shipping is free.

Daily deal – Eye-Fi Home wireless 2GB SD memory card for $60

by Scott Carmichael on

My daily deal for today is another of my personal favorites when it comes to gadgets. The Eye-Fi wireless SD memory card fits in any digital camera that takes SD cards and instantly uploads any photos you take directly to your computer.

No more messing with cables or having to dock your camera after ever photo you take. As soon as your camera connects to the wireless network in your house, it immediately starts uploading all your photos.

I’ve had an Eye-Fi card since the day they were available, and it has completely changed the way I take my photos, even for simple things like creating an Ebay sale, I simply take the photo and 5 seconds later the photo is available on my desktop. I’ll post a full review of Eye-Fi in an upcoming review, but I did not want to withold the new prices of the Eye-Fi cards.

The Eye-Fi card is available in three different “flavors”; Home, Share and Explore.

The home card is used for taking photos and sending them to your home PC. The Share card can send photos to your home PC as well as a large number of photo sharing sites (like Smugmug, Flickr and others). And finally, the Explore card adds Wi-Fi hotspot access through Wayport for a year as well as basic “geotagging” of your photos.

The Eye-Fi Home card is currently on sale through J&R Electronics for just $59.99 (with $2.95 shipping). The other Eye-Fi cards can be found through Amazon.com.

Daily deal – Accessory Genie portable battery pack

by Scott Carmichael on

My daily deal for today is for the “Accessory Genie portable power pak”. This portable Lithium-Ion battery pack can be charged using your desktop or laptop computer, and comes complete with power charging tips for most portable electronic devices.

Included in the package is the power pack itself, a USB charging cable and power adapters for the iPod/iPod Touch/iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola and Samsung.

The battery has a capacity of 1000mAh, which should be enough for at least one or two full charges of your device.

The portable power pak is on sale for just $13.99 through Amazon.com but since it is being sold through a third party, you’ll have to pay $7.99 in shipping.

Devices like this can be a real lifesaver if you find yourself stuck at the airport with a dead phone, or an iPod that funs out of juice halfway over the ocean.

Daily deal – Soldius 1 universal solar battery charger for $14.99

by Scott Carmichael on

My daily deal for today is for the Soldius 1 universal solar powered battery charger. This pocket sized solar charger comes with an assortment of universal power “tips” for charging many commonly used devices like the iPod, Blackberry smartphones and most Nokia, Motorola, SonyEricsson, Samsung and Siemens phones.

Included in the package is also a female USB power tip, so you can use almost any power cable that has a regular USB plug.

The device is currently on sale for just $14.99, but supplies are limited. The Soldius solar charger comes in black or white, but you don’t get to pick the color you are shipped.

To get a full charge for your device, you’ll need to be in direct sunlight, and it may take several hours to reach 100%, but at $15 you really do get a great little charger, and you won’t have to worry about charging it. Buy.com will even ship it for free.

Daily deal – Zyxel USB wireless adapter with built in hotspot finder

by Scott Carmichael on

My daily deal for today is for the Zyxel AG-225HSP USB Wi-Fi adapter/hotspot finder.

This small USB dongle adds Wi-Fi to any laptop that does not have it built in, plus it doubles as a hotspot finder that can help discover wireless hotspots without gaving to turn your laptop on.

This adapter usually retails for $40, but Newegg.com currently has it on sale with a $20 mail-in rebate and free shipping, bringing the price down to a very reasonable $20.

Not all laptops out there have Wi-Fi built in, and with more and more public locations adding wireless access, this device is the perfect way to help get your laptop online if you regularly pass through a hotel, airport or the local Starbucks.

Included in the box is the adapter with a protective cap, a USB extension cable, a driver CD and a wrist strap. The rebate is only valid on purchases made until September 28th.
