Kayak? Canoe? Inflatable? Hard shell? What’s the best choice to enjoy the roaring rapids as snow packs around the
country begin melting? Rex Turner writes in
MaineToday.com that you should think of buying a paddling boat as you would a car, asking yourself questions like
what you will be doing with it and where you will be going. Another thing to think about is what paddling experience
you already have – one used to a canoe may find a kayak daunting at first.
Photo of the Day: (4/11/05)
Holy bananas look at this photo.
This comes from Paddler Magazine but could easily
have also been featured in Wet Your Pants Journal. Of course, the guy pulls it off, but you have to wonder what’s going
through his head right at this moment…other than water.
5th Annual Port Angeles Kayak Symposium
Next week is the 5th Annual Port Angeles Kayak Symposium. A
fairly big event for Northwestern paddlers. THere are sea kayak trips, clinics live music, kayak polo and
entertainment…all right there in beautiful Port Angeles, WA. The event is being held from April 15th to 17th and you
can register online. Woo hoo!
Paddlesports Demo Weekend
Where will you be on the weekend of April 30 to May 1?
If you are an East Coaster, and a paddler, you might drop by the
Paddlesports Demo
Weekend at North Cove Outfitters in Old Saybrook, CT.
Paddlesports Demo Weekend
is an annual fundraiser for Camp Hazen YMCA where folks can go and try out new boats, talk to experts, get some free
instruction. I may just head up there myself as I am downright giddy that paddle season is about to kick off again.
New England Paddlesports Show
Spring is upon us and paddlers from all over are coming out from their winger hibernation, rubbing their eyes and
stretching their limbs as they prepare to hit the water. And as we speak, up in New England they are gathering for the
2005 New England Paddlesports Show. It is going on TODAY, up
at the University of New Hampshire. It is said to be one of the best opportunities of the year to purchase a
kayak or canoe.
All the big names are there. Old Town Canoe, Perception Kayak, Wilderness Systems, Necky Kayak.
Anyone go? I’d love to hear how it went.
