Book Recommendation

So today we highlighted Norbert Wu’s photo work as a
Gadling Photo of the Day. If you like his work, then you might be interested in his book of photos called
Diving the World. Wu’s stuff
is truly epic (I saw a documentary about his Antarctic work a few months ago and was blown away), so I’d guess the book
is killer.

I am going to try to get my hands on a copy to review, but in the meantime, if underwater photography is your thing,
you might pick up a copy
yourself.

Photo of the Day: (1/01/05)

First of all, Happy New Year!

Now on to our photo of the day .. the first of 2005.

Norbert Wu is a hero of mine. His photography of the world beneath the frozen Antarctic is stunning. Unbelieveable,
really. So what a better way to usher in the New Year than by showcasing one of Norb’s photos as our
photo of the day.

Today’s photo of the day is one that Nobert shot under the Antarctic ice. An amazingly colorful shot of a place that
very few people ever see.

Diving Beneath Disaster

Man, this story blew me away. Faye Wachs and
her husband Eugene Kim were diving in Thailand Sunday morning when they noticed that the visibility underwater suddenly
got dramatically worse, and that they felt like they were being “sucked downward”. They rose, oblivious to the fact
that the tsunami passed over them.

Talk about lucky.

Top 20 Best Islands

On the topic of tropical locales:

Islands Magazine asked numerous writers and photographers to name the top
twenty most beautiful islands in the world. Since I listed
the ten top ski resorts earlier, I thought it appropriate as we end 2004 to give some props to tropical places as well.
I confess I know very few of these places :-(. But I’m eager to hear what others think. Drop some thoughts in the
comments section if you’re familiar with any or all of these places.

Diving the Bay Islands

The Bay Islands linger off the coast of Honduras, a gritty little country that has had more than its share of natural disasters and political upheaval. But despite all that, Roatan and some of the other areas there make for some of the best diving in the world. Sharks? Got em. Dolphins? Yup. Wrecks, walls, reefs, animal encounters? Check.

So with snow falling in much of the country and rain falling in most of the rest…why not click through this little piece on the diving in the Bay Islands and give some thought to adding them to your Spring itinerary? The article gives some great description of the dives in the area and I have to admit, even though I just got off the slopes, I’m thinking of tropical climes.
