A great diving picture today from Festeban is today’s
POTD. The shot reminds me of the time I dived the Blue Hole in Dahab, Egypt, and hung off this killer wall about 35
feet with nothing but the deepest blue below. Great photo.
Deep Sea Detectives
I posted about this over at divester, but it is something for dive fans to add to their calendars.
Wreck diving fans are in store for a whole new season of
Deep Sea Detectives. The show is hosted by two guys who if mentioned here before: John Chatterton and Richie
Kohler. I actually had the pleasure of meeting these guys
a while back at the Adventure Travel Expo. The show is superb, and features them diving wrecks and exploring how they
ended up on the bottom of the sea. The next episode is May 16.
Cayman Brac Photos Online
It took me a long time to get around to it, but I finally put all the photos from my Cayman Brac Trip online. You
can read my trip report on our sister site Divester,
here. (If you haven’t yet checked
Divester out, have a look!)… As you will see, a lot of the underwater photos
didn’t turn out so hot, but there are a handful of decent ones in the mix.
Diving the Rockies…Sort of
Tell me in what other place can you wrassle a steed, get in a day of fine skiing (say, Vail), and then do some
diving among an assortment of tropical fish? Well, OK, maybe California if you’re willing to drive to kingdom come…but
what landlocked state can you do this in? If you said Montana, you’re wrong. It’s Colorado.
See what I’m talking about in
this
LA Times piece which celebrates Denver’s Ocean Journey, where divers in
the country’s squarest (in the literal sense) state can suit up and plunge into a tank and, as Don Corleone might put
it, swim with the fishes. The only hitch is that if you dive, you have to help clean the aquarium. Not a bad trade off,
really, when the ocean is several thousand miles away.
Deep Ocean Expeditions
It’s amazing that you can now be a deep sea tourist. I can hardly wait until we can go to
space and look at the sweeping curve of the Earth as we nibble on Pringles and sip a Stella. The latter, as I say, is
probably a ways off, but the former is doable, provided you’ve got the cash.
Deep Ocean Expeditions offers trips in a deep sea submersible
to various famous underwater spots around the world. A trip to the Titanic is scheduled for July 2005. The cost? A
mere $36,650.
