Sundance Film Fest on the Way!

No need prolonging this short post on Sundance.
The festival is close to being just a month away
and for filmmakers and fans constantly seeking flicks that embody creative risk-taking
and diversity, time is running a tad short in getting an affordable flight. Park City, Utah will not only come alive
with festival goers, but the skiers and snowbaorders who have always been known to crowd the area. The event takes
place from January 19-26, 2006 and will celebrate 25 years of storytelling, independence and discovery.

Can’t get to the festival, but still into the movement? Check out the
online shop which I can only imagine is packed full of excellent holiday
goods.

Santa at Ski Dubai

When Santa isn’t too busy diving in aquariums he
likes to have his breakfast with the children at
the indoor ski facility, Ski Dubai in the United Arab
Emirates
. You would think Santa would prefer the great outdoors and the splendor of natural made snow over that
which man has created in a place that never sees snow, but it looks like ol’ Kris Kringle is a well-rounded type of
guy. You can have your eggs scrambled however you wish all while chatting it up with the man on December 15, 16, 19,
22, or 23 from 9am to 11am. After you get your fill, forget all about the desert oasis located outside of the
snow dome while cruising down the slopes.

Dining with Santa seemed to be a great way to squeeze this one again for all those eager to experience some snd
and snow while in Dubai. If you’re still puzzled by the latest and third largest indoor ski facility you can
certainly find all the details you’ll ever need at the official site, here.
Gridskipper recently gave mention to
Ski Dubai opening and Erik expressed his opinions on
the initial news a while back.

Snow Shoeing at Tamarack

I brought up skiinig a bit yesterday, as I have serious plans to get out this year and carve some V. But I was also
thinking about making a trip to Cali with some friends and heading to Mammoth
Mountain.
If I do, I will likely also hit the Tamarack Lodge and get
some show shoeing done. Tamarack offers miles of wonderful trails and epic scenery, and usually, becuase snow shoeing
is less popular than alpine, it is totally uncrowded. While much of this development is beginning to make Mammoth
Disneyland, Tamarack is still a place to go to get away and feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere.

Photo of the Day (12/9/2005)

Well, a major storm is coming our way…apparently a big one that is sure to freeze fingertips and toes across the
Northeast. Part of me wants to say, awesome! because that means snow for skiing, another part of me says Damn! because
well, I just ain’t ready for the cold cold. Anyhow, in the spirit of freezing,
here’s a cool photo of frozen lake Wolzig
near Berlin by Lotse.

Resorts for Non-Skiers

We try to cover the gamut of places to see and go during all the seasons, but tend to focus on places you can go to
do the winter sports we know and love. Personally, I am a big fan of skiing, been doing it since I was a wee lad, so I
tend to look at resorts like Mammoth, in
California, that I know well.

But MSNBC has got an interesting feature on resorts for the non-skier. These are places that are kid friendly and have
plenty of things to do even if you’re not strapping on the boards. Thankfully, the ones they list are also great
resorts FOR skiiing, so it’s a bit of a double whammy. Among their favorites are
Lake Placid, New York,
Aspen, Colorado, and
Park City, Utah, all very good
selections.
