Video Of The Day: French Street Performer Spreads Love Of Cats

Street performers, or buskers, are found in every corner of the world, and practice of performing in public places for gratuities dates back to antiquity. Performers are constantly coming up with wild and wacky ways to impress passersby and entice them into donating their spare change. This short documentary by Paul Trillo follows one of those unique characters: a cat-loving street performer who travels for hours by train throughout the south of France to perform with his affectionate house cats. Although it was shot during the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, it was brought to my attention today when Vimeo.com cat-ified their homepage for April Fools Day.

Who is the strangest street performer you’ve ever seen, and where did you find them?

The Flying Drummer [VIDEO]

At Gadling we know a thing or two about flying.

We’ve seen flying spiders in the sky over Brazil, flying people in New York City, flying rhinos in South Africa, even a flying fire-breathing dragon over Disney World. We’ve talked about flying to Mars, being afraid of flying, flying drunk and flying when you’re a person of size.

We know how to travel around the world without flying, where to find a flying casino and what it takes for humans to fly. But a flying drummer was a first for us and surely worth a look.

The world of air guitar has nothing on Freddy the Flying Drummer who we see in this video from EpicTV featuring a mad French man playing his drums in the air hanging off a rope.

Video Of The Day: Brooklyn Stop-Motion Tour

“Brooklyn Brewery Mash – A trip through BK in 3000 photos” from Paul Trillo on Vimeo.

This stop-motion tour of Brooklyn is pretty cool. As a tribute to Brooklyn Brewery’s MASH tour, Landon Van Soest and Paul Trillo put this video together. Using over 3,000 images, this video manages to capture much of the essence of Brooklyn – the people, food, drink, culture and sights from the street – in about one minute. These filmmakers have a knack for slow motion shots in addition to stop motion video. Slowing down at all the right moments in the video (dust being blown off of a vinyl record; popcorn in the air in a theater), pausing for this video will put a little bit of Brooklyn in your day.

Video: Great White Shark Breaks Into Diver’s Cage

Last week in Gansbaai, South Africa, a man almost became an afternoon snack for a great white shark when the predator forced its way into a protective shark diving cage. A video uploaded by YouTube user Bryan Plummer shows a large shark ignoring the bait put out by tour operators and instead going straight for the main course: diver. After jamming its head into the cage through the viewing portal, the shark thrashed around and then swam away. A few nervous seconds later the divers in the cage popped back up, apparently no worse for wear. The man closest to the action, known only as Roger, had reportedly gotten married the day prior.

Tour operators do not know why the shark would have attacked the cage. Perhaps the shark just wanted to wrestle. One thing is certain: this is a story that Roger will be telling his future kids.
