Video Of The Day: Airplane Kindergarten

Get nervous when you see a kid on a plane? How about a whole classroom of kids on a plane? A clever kindergarten in Georgia (the country, not the state) has transformed an old airplane into a school, with an intact cockpit. Check out the video above from the UK Telegraph and get ready to be envious of a bunch of Georgian 5-year-olds who get to play with cool buttons and learn their Alpha Tango Bravos.

Video Of The Day: Laos

“In Asia – Episode 3 – LAOS” from Vincent Urban on Vimeo.

I just had the privilege of watching this beautiful video of Laos. I came across this film on vimeo. Created by Vincent Urban for a series titled “In Asia,” this video on Laos is the third out of five films from his trip to Asia in the fall of 2010. The song playing throughout the video just might become one of your new favorites and the footage is beautiful and captivating. The video starts in a native village in Laos and from there, the scenes change. Luang Prabang, Phonsavan, Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Don Khong and Khone Phapheng are all explored and captured thereafter. Enjoy.

Video: Man Wrestles Shark On Australian Beach

Would you wrestle a shark? This British holidaymaker did when he spotted one close to some children on a beach in Queensland, Australia.

Paul Marshallsea, 62, grabbed the two-meter-long dusky shark by the tail and dragged it away from shore. As soon as it got in deeper water, the BBC reports, it turned on him and almost bit his leg.

Dusky sharks have the most powerful bite of any of the 400 shark species. While they aren’t considered one of the most dangerous varieties, they should be treated with caution.

Lifeguards and members of the coast guard were then able to lure the shark into a nearby creek with the hope that it would return to sea with the tide. They said the animal is probably sick and while they praised Marshallsea’s actions, they don’t recommend wrestling sharks.

Video: Winter Time-Lapse Of America’s Southwest

If you’ve been reading Dave Seminara’s posts this week on winter hiking in Arches and Canyonlands National Park you probably already have some sense of just how spectacular this region of the U.S. actually is. But just in case you need a reminder, this beautiful time-lapse video from the American southwest will certainly do the trick. In addition to being filmed in the parks mentioned above, this short film was shot in a number of other great locations throughout Utah and Arizona, including Zion, Monument Valley and Horseshoe Bend.

At just two minutes and thirty-three seconds in length, it is a bit short, however, and by the end you’ll be left wanting more. Perhaps that is just the teaser you need to inspire your own journey to his breathtaking outdoor playground. If you haven’t been there yet, definitely add it to your list of places to visit.

New Travel TV For Adventure Junkies: ‘Reel Rock’

If you liked the REEL ROCK climbing and adventure tour, or you’re just a fan of hard knocks-style travel TV in the vein of “Man vs. Wild,” you’ll love this new TV series on Outside Television.

Produced by Emmy award winning filmmakers and backed by The North Face and Gore-Tex, this new weekly show takes footage from the 300-city tour and condenses the very best moments into a weekly TV program starting on January 23.

Each episode follows climbing and mountain adventurers as they attempt to scale the world’s most dizzying heights and scariest cliff faces – with varying degrees of success.

Shot entirely in high-definition, the show features pretty incredible scenery, including El Capitan in Yosemite, the north face of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps, and the ice-strewn Helmcken Falls deep in the Canadian Rockies.

“Our mission is to bring the transcendence of the outside world into people’s living rooms and immerse them into a state of majesty unlike anything they might have experienced before,” says Rob Faris, senior vice president of programming and production for Outside Television in a release. “We not only want to reward anyone who engages in rock climbing as a personal passion, but also inspire others to embrace the magnificence that mountain adventure uniquely possesses.”

We’re pretty sure we’ll tune in, at least for the first episode. The trailer (above) looks pretty cool.
