Video of the Day: Attack of the Blob

Blobs are awesome. They’re big inflatable masses that you can use to launch people dozens of feet into the air and back down into the water. And, according to this video, the Blob has taken its aquatic mayhem to France, where these people were using it in Cergy. As summer heats up and we all look for ways to cool off (at least in the Northern Hemisphere), you can’t go wrong with the Blob. Unless, of course, you land as awkwardly as the person in this video. I imagine they might have enjoyed cooling off with a cold beverage rather than face-planting into this lake.

Stay cool out there!

Photo of the day- Bicycles in Copenhagen

This photo of bicycles in Copenhagen, Denmark shot in June with a Sony DSLR A-700 comes from Flickr user justchuckfl who tells us:

“In Copenhagen, you will see many historical buildings as well as some modern architecture. This image was captured through the window of a tour bus and shows the ever present bicycles that you will see everywhere in Denmark.”

See more of justchuckfl’s Copenhagen photos too, there are a bunch of good ones.

Did you know you can get an idea of how these great Photos of the Day were created by clicking on the device used to capture them? Exif data is a record of the settings a camera used to take a photo or video embedded into the files the camera saves and Flickr displays it for us to see.

Not sure what ISO, aperture, metering and all that photography lingo means? Gadling’s Dana Murph does and breaks it down for us in a series of Travel Photo Tips.

Photo of the day – Blue Citroen, Paris

Paris is a city of romantic fantasy. Can any other city truly lay claim to the status of Paris in the public romantic imagination? As Fly For Fun, the photographer of this image points out, this blue Citroen 2CV symbolizes Paris, referencing both the city’s grit and its refined grace.

Photo of the day – Vietnamese flower seller

Sometimes (for instance during a summer day of on-again-off-again rain in London) only a major splash of color will do. Today’s Photo of the Day, by Luke Robinson, accomplishes this end very well. This Vietnamese flower seller is surrounded by brilliant hues, made all the more noticeable by the gray metal backdrop. Even the blue of the flower seller’s jacket is bright and compelling.

Photo of the Day- the old and the new

Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flicker user Kumukulanui who tells us “The ‘Pride of America’ cruise ship moored off Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Just in front of it is a small craft made in the style of the traditional wa’a kaulua (twin-hulled canoe) that Hawaiians used to travel around the Pacific Ocean in centuries past.”
