Photo of the day — spring in England

Today’s Photo of the Day captures early spring in England. In late spring and summer, this canal will burst with color. For now, spring appears fragile and embryonic. Winter hasn’t yet been overwhelmed by verdant green, and the chief source of color is provided by the red boat gliding across the canal.

Flickr user Kumukulanui shot this image on England’s Worcester-Birmingham Canal last week, just a few days after the official start of springtime.

Photo of the day – Sunset in Manhattan

Sunsets are a common staple of the travel photo album. We tend to associate them with palm-tree-lined beaches, desert landscapes, and misty mountains. Yet this photo by Flickr user jameskadamson has nary a cactus or foothill in sight. Taken in New York City, it’s a beautiful perspective on the building’s architecture and the photographer’s favorite time of day. Want more sunsets? Check out yesterday’s video of the day for 365 sunsets around the world.

Video of the Day: 4 minutes of boat fails

Who doesn’t enjoy a boat ride (except for people with extreme seasickness)? Whether you’re on a schooner, a yacht or a cruise ship, being on a boat makes you cooler. However, no form of transportation is perfect. Cars break down, planes crash and boats…well, there’s apparently more that can go wrong with boats than we ever could have imagined. So, if you have four minutes to kill and want to see boat after boat meet a horrible fate, then this is the video for you.

Of course, we never root for disasters and we hope that everyone walked (or swam) away safely. That said, we’ll be laughing our way to the life boats and making sure that we have a floatation device handy at all times.

Photo of the day – Tiny airplane in a big blue sky

Today’s Photo of the Day depicts an incredibly small airplane in a vast blue sky. In addition to forcing a recognition of scale, it’s also a downright delightful and uncanny viewing pleasure to look at such a tiny speck of a plane in an enormous sea of blue. The plane in the image is so small that it almost resembles a radar tracking image. Photographer lucyinthesky withdiamonds snapped this image in Breckenridge, Colorado last week.

Been gazing at the sky lately? Got an image of said sky you’d like to share with the world? Upload it to Flickr’s Gadling group pool and it might just end up as a future Photo of the Day.

Photo of the day – Stormtroopers in Las Vegas

Have you ever walked down the street and seen something amazing and cursed yourself for not having a camera? Lucky for us, Flickr user mciccone640 had his camera and shot today’s Photo of the Day of couple of robots stormtroopers* in Las Vegas. I wonder if there was a convention in town or if the guys were just wearing costumes for luck in the casinos. Perhaps a theme wedding? Hope they had a lucky night (going to the bathroom couldn’t have been easy), no matter the reason.

*This PotD was originally called Robots in Las Vegas until my husband informed me that they were, in fact, storm troopers and not robots. Sorry. Still can’t be easy for them to go to the bathroom.
