Photo of the Day- Mickey’s Forest

Brian Searl, President and CEO of InsiderPerks sends us this photo of a hidden Mickey so big it can only be seen from the air:

Seeking out something unique on your vacations has to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of all. You can do what everyone else does or you can go for that story that no one else knows.

In my case, I was along for a ride in a hot-air balloon over Central Florida, with a company called Bob’s Balloons. I had no idea this forest, shaped like the head of Mickey Mouse, even existed until Bob told me to look down.

Turns out Disney has been growing this forest for well over a decade now and grooming it into the shape of Mickey Mouse. It’s never been publicized to my knowledge and I couldn’t even begin to tell you how to get there from the ground. What I do know is that it made my 6yo daughter’s day and gave her a story to tell all her friends.

After all, the stories we come back with are what make the vacation memorable right?

Photo of the day – Tilt-shift Barcelona

Suddenly, we’re seeing tilt-shift images all over the place, in both still photography and video. Tilt-shift photography creates a mesmerizing shrinking effect. Above, this technique turns Barcelona’s Passeg de Gracia into a delightful miniature netherworld of toy trees, passengers, and vehicles. Thanks to reliable Gadling group pool contributor Gus NYC for today’s Photo of the Day contribution.

Have a tilt-shift image in your archives that deserves to be seen by a wider audience? Submit it to the Gadling group pool on Flickr. We might just select it to be a future Photo of the Day.

Photo of the Day – 51 Irish coffees for St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! If you’re celebrating today in America, you’re probably planning to drink green beer or a nice pint of Guinness, but why not warm up with an Irish coffee, spiked with whiskey (Irish, of course)? In today’s Photo of the Day, Flickr user jrodmanjr snapped these 51 coffees in action at San Francisco‘s Buena Vista Cafe, which claims to have brought the drink to the United States from Ireland’s Shannon Airport and holds the Guinness World Record for most Irish coffees served. A fun photo bonus: another Flickr user caught the same coffees (and jrodmanjr) at the Buena Vista.

Take any pics of your favorite beverages while traveling? Upload them to the Gadling Flickr pool and we may use it as a future Photo of the Day.

Video of the Day: Wile E. Coyote in 127 Hours

127 Hours tells the story of mountain climber Aron Ralston, who had a boulder fall on his arm and trap him in a canyon in Utah. It’s an epic tale of survival and a harsh reminder that adventure travel can be gravely dangerous. The film features some gruesome scenes, including Aron cutting off his own arm to escape. Thankfully, this parody starring Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner is much easier to watch.

Stay safe out there, kids. Pack a first aid kit and always let people know where you are. We do, however, recommend that you leave your dynamite at home. The TSA frowns on you bringing it on planes.

Photo of the day- Milford Sound, New Zealand

Debra Corbeil and Dave Bouskill are known as Canada’s Adventure Couple and have immersed themselves into the culture of 45 nations during their travels for 13 years as they they have climbed, paddled, hiked and biked their way through 5 continents. Today’s photo Dave took in New Zealand. In his words:

New Zealand has some incredible scenery. Mountains and lakes to die for and seascapes that are out of this world. But there is another side to New Zealand, which is the tropical jungle. On our way to Milford Sound there are many walks and tracks that offer gorgeous scenery like this.

At the bottom this particular one was a rushing glacial river that wound its way through the countryside. The sun was perfect as it backlit the trees and ignited the mist rising from the roaring river.

The sound of the river, the smell of the jungle and the warmth of the sun combined to give the sense of being in another world. Possibly Middle Earth?

This is our first trip to New Zealand but certainly not our last
