Giant Ads Seen From the Air

Companies are always looking for new ways to advertise their products. In Anchorage, I’ve noticed a large truck that just drives around town flashing ads on its sides. I think they’re calling this a “moving billboard.” I’m calling it a waste of gas.

Well, someone came up with another brilliant idea to capture consumers’ attention: giant ads the size of three football fields aimed at plane passengers coming in to land. The UK’s Ad-Air launched this new service last week, offering brands ad space near some of the world’s busiest runways. The company has spent the last 5 years securing space around several major airports, which include Heathrow, Paris, and Los Angeles.

The first giant ad will appear near Dubai’s airport in October.

London Airports Still Slow

Beware that London airport security is still very tight.

I was flying back from a weekend trip in London today and waited in line–or should I say “queue”–for almost 2 hours. (In a situation like this, one really appreciates the ability of the British to form lines and wait patiently). Flying into London was fine, but any flights from London are closely monitored.

In terms of the current security measures in the UK, people are now allowed to bring on one carry-on, but a very small one (e.g. one woman’s purse, computer bag or small backpack), definitely not the typical wheeled carry-on suitcase. I learned the hard way – they sent me back from security back to check-in, which meant…another line.

I saw a women cry because she really wanted to bring all her cosmetics on board, but the security personnel were less than understanding. They confiscated her perfume, her lipstick, her lip gloss and her hair gel. Which made me realize that this regulation could mean a lot more uglier, smellier, bad-hairdo women roaming around airports.

Thank goodness for those Duty Free shops! Now that travelers can’t really bring on board anything they buy there, at least they can use their make up samples for free. Too bad they don’t do the same with liquor.

British Airways Bans Snoop Doggy Dog & Friends

So obviously this is old news in the celebrity gossip circuit, but I’m spending a day catching up after a week of being under the weather. West coast rapper, Snoop Doggy Dog and his posse have been placed in the dog house by British Airways after a recent scuffle in London’s Heathrow Airport. Apparently some of Snoop’s entourage couldn’t get into the British Airways’ exclusive first class lounge because they were riding on economy class and things got out of hand when they tried to force themselves into the lounge. The brawl that took place involved some 30 people where seven police officers received cuts, bruises and minor injuries. When commenting on the reason the airlines decided to offload the party and refuse travel, Richard Goodfellow, a spokesperson for BA said, “That sort of behavior will not  tolerated.”

Good for British Airways and bad dog, Snoop Dog! To say that the rapper and his crew should have known better is just an understatement. Grown men causing that kind of fuss over hanging in an exclusive lounge is just plain silly. See USA Today for further details.
