Nothing Says iGlove You Like This Gift

So the gift you bought a loved one didn’t go over well? Maybe this will be, er, more warmly received.

iPod lovers are rejoicing at Marmot’s new iGlove gloves and glove liners. Not only do they keep your hands warm and dry, but touch pads on the fingers of these glove liners allow you to operate your iPod click-wheel, without completely exposing your hands every time you want to skip past that last summer’s hit tune, which is not as appropriate to listen to while on the slopes.

The patent-pending fabric lets the electrical charge from your finger pass through the liner. And, of course, the liners work with any glove, or can be used on their own.

Not that some of us will be enjoying much skiing this year (there’s no snow in Europe!), but it’s good to know that somebody figured out how to make winter sports more compatable with the iPod.

iPod Specs to Tune Out With

Now you can tune out the entire world, not just the auditory world. Coming in January, you’ll be able to buy, for $299, Icuiti AV230 Video Display Glasses, aka iWear.

You wear these glasses and plug them into your portable DVD player or video iPod. Sound comes through built-in headphones. Big deal, you say? Well, the video experience is supposed to be equivalent to watching a 44-inch TV from nine feet away. And no need to wear your glasses or contacts, since focus can be adjusted in each eyepiece independently. Battery life is a full five hours.

Wow, I can’t wait for iPod video walking tours (white cane included)! Or, how about iPod video driving tours! With these, you could miss your entire vacation!

Driving–Into Others–While on Your Blackberry

I’m sure many of us have done it, tapping on a cellphone, mp3 player, or other mobile device while driving. But there are costs to being wired and distracted while traveling, and we should avoid these dangerous activities when we’re in control of several tons of steel.

A Washington man driving in the express lanes on I-5 near Seattle caused a chain-reaction car collision yesterday, after failing to notice traffic in front of him had stopped. The reason? He was tapping away on his Blackberry.

By some strange luck, no one was seriously injured, although the collisions involved 28 passengers on a bus plus four cars. Folks: let’s set the cellphone, Blackberry, and iPod aside while behind the wheel, please. While we’re at it, let’s put away the make-up and newspaper, too. Driving, like traveling, requires our attention: “A traveler without observation is a bird without wings.”

I lived in Bangkok briefly back in the mid-90s and remember the city as a buzzing, cacophonous, traffic-clogged metropolis where anything went. That is, as I once put it to a fiend: Bangkok is not a city for the undisciplined. I spent many an hour walking Bangkok’s dirty-foul smelling streets and wandering down blind alleys in search of interesting things to see and, well, to eat. Needless to say, I found many of each on every little expedition.

Now, it seems, given the benefits of technology, my meanderings would be somewhat enhanced…depending on how you look at it. A company has put together Bangkok walking tours called Siam Soundtrek that take you along historical, cultural and musical ambles through the city’s streets. The music helps carry along the narrative, which goes impressively deep. Now, you’re not going to meet a lot of interesting people if you walk around the city with headphones on, but these tours might be a nice way to start out in the city or for tourists who just want to get acquainted with the city in a short period of time.

Eco-Friendly iPod Case

Since it’s Earth Day and all, and because we’ve been
getting lots of comments about our iPod post, we figured you would want to know about how you can listen to your ipod,
protect it from the elements, AND help save the earth…all at the same time.

Well, the Jimi case comes from the good folks at thejimi.com and is all about being
green…even if you can get it in several different colors. The Jimi is made from tough, translucent
polycarbonate (so called "first cousin to bullet-proof glass"), that is 100-percent recycled plastic. There
is also apparently an attached mirror on the backside for the Adonis/Narcissus in you who can’t seem to get enough of
looking at yourself.

The case runs a mere, $26. Not bad for peace of mind and ipod protection.
