Allie Cooper on Thailand’s Post-tsunami Beaches

During my last big foreign affair with the country of Tajikistan this past September I had the opportunity to meet several cool Tajik natives as well as the team members from my Habitat GV build. To list them all by name and what exactly makes them cool would take too long and could go forever, so for now I’ll concentrate on Alison Cooper. Allie, as I like to call her, was one of the individuals lending her hand in building better homes in the Dushanbe community.

Once we wrapped up our duties in the Central Asian city it was time to say our good-byes and head our separate ways. Most of us were heading home, but Allie being the overly lucky one decided to jet over to Thailand for some R&R and well I’m sure other things. Here, I’ve recently discovered her thoughts and opinions on Thailand’s post-tsunami beaches in the Christian Science Monitor. It’s a short read and doesn’t offer any hard core tips to really help you plan, but it may give you some extra reassurance if you’re second-guessing your own trip to Phi Phi Don or other islands.

Check out her Thailand Flickr photo stream for additional travel inspiration.

Ibizabound Blog

Although this Ibizabound site is the creation of an independent real estate broker agency there are still some pretty good bits and chunks to pick off of their blog. Now, the entire site would definitely be a good resource if you were considering spending a month or two on the island this summer, but don’t feel as though their wanting to help interested parties do such distracts from the blog. I took a fairly lengthy tour of the site and read through many of the blog entries to make sure they had some nugget of good for a traveler trying to score a good meal or simply learn what’s happening with the upcoming 2007 Ibiza Film Festival. And since Ibiza is also known for partying on the beach, in the club and after-after hours, they’ve done the favor of making sure to include some club coverage. Overall it still looks like a pretty new work, but if they keep things up they should have a nice site going both with the blogging and the select real estate offered.

Caribbean Airlines to Debut in 2007

On my trips down to Trinidad & Tobago I always flew with American Airlines, mainly because I had enough mileage to get down there for little to no cost, which means I never had the opportunity to fly with BWIA. Sad, I suppose. In early 2007 BWIA will close after 66 years of service, but will become known as Caribbean Airlines. All tickets already purchased for travel on BWIA will be honored under the new airlines and customers can also count on having their BWEE club memberships transferred as well. For details and a full press release refer to the BWIA site or you can go see what Caribbean Airlines has in store for the coming year.

World Championship of Dominoes

Call me lame for doing this, but those of you who have come looking to find details for this year’s World Championship of Dominoes will be upset to learn that the event has passed and just by a hair. The event was held from October 18-21, 2006. I too thought it would do me some good to slam some bones on the table and punish my opponent in a most embarrassing round of dominoes for some extra pocket cash ($25,000 U.S. for First Prize), but we will all have to wait until next year. That gives everyone who needs some polishing up extra time to prepare. The Air Jamaica World Championship of Dominoes appears to take place annually in or around Montego Bay, Jamaica and is one of many dominoe playing affairs. So if your heart should be filled with sorrow from this bad, yet good news turn your frown upside down and learn how to get into next year’s event here.

Photo of the Day (10/21/06)

Seeing amazing pictures from Thailand often gets me a little heated and tells me it is time to start planning again for a great Thai adventure of my own. (The tsunamis stopped me from going three days before my flight out. I know I’ve mentioned it a million times.) Sorry. Anyhow, this awesome sunset with water skier shot comes from weegolo who spent time in the Koh Samui area back in 98′. Great shot and thanks for the added inspiration! Hope to see more from this set.
