With the cold snowy winter wonderland hanging outside of my window here in Connecticut right now I sure wouldn’t mind catching a lift in one of those over a sunset like that in the Hawaiian Islands. This photo was captured by gtetonswy at Kaanapali Beach on Maui and from the looks of it they must have had a pretty decent seat on the beach or perhaps they were just rocking away in a nice little boat watching as the chopper flew off into the fiery sun. Sigh – I sure don’t know, but I’d give just about anything to be there and out of the snow.
GADLING’S TAKE FIVE: Week of February 4
There was a tremendous out of activity going on here at Gadling this week. There were mentions of huge music festivals; silly hitchhiker’s auctioning off their names and enough Valentine’s suggestions to eliminate any and all excuses. We understand that you may have missed something in the frenzy and so now it is time to catch-up. Here are some picks hand plucked by me that are worth viewing once more.

Those of use who were either snowed in or couldn’t get closer than our television sets to experience some of the NFL Superbowl action down in Miami for some reason or another, can now check out Willy’s play-by-play coverage for the NFL Experience. The event wasn’t exactly the big game, but sports lovers may find this one inspiring enough to experience it on their own next year.

New Caribbean Resorts
Now that the mild winter weather has vanished hanging around the northeastern end of the United States is no longer any fun for a non-skiing, boarding, or snowshoeing individual like me. As I sit here in a semi-decent hotel room in Burlington a.k.a Brrrrlington, Vermont , I’ve made up my mind that I will spend the weekend searching for refuge in warmer climes. To kick things off, I’ve discovered this short and sweet list of new Caribbean resorts from Daily Candy. The islands featured are Turks & Caicos, St. Lucia, Virgin Gorda, and the Bahamas. Of all of them I’m mainly digging the one in St. Lucia, Jade Mountain, which is said to have suites with one wall missing so you can look out at the private infinity pool or beachside mountains. I’ll gladly take the view of the mountains.
Get Lost in Bermuda
When you’re talking the ABC’s of the Caribbean islands the ‘B’ usually stands for Bonaire or some might say Barbados or the Bahamas, but today it stands for Bermuda. Why Bermuda and why today? Well I recently found this story from the Baltimore Sun online on one man’s journey to the island dominated by shades of pink and super nice sandy beaches that seems very much worth your attention whether you are an island lover or not. The author, Robert Cross, warns us almost immediately that he is not fond of beaches with a lot of hype and despite all of what he’d heard he decided to go anyway. Turned out it was his luck and in his story he points other perspective travelers beyond the beach to nice places to eat, sleep and peep the local history scene. I never gave Bermuda a whole lot of thought, but after reading through his tale it is safe to say I wouldn’t mind going maybe. I like beaches with tons of hype or none at all. Isn’t it time you got lost in Bermuda too?
Get Them an ISLANDS Calendar!
We haven’t posted many gift giving ideas here for the season and I’ll let you know I have some pretty rock-your-socks off recommendations, but for now I offer you this nifty stocking stuffer idea. Let me remind you that it is simple, useful and it is the perfect purchase for those on a tight-holiday budget. Not everyone can afford the first-class ticket to Bora-Bora for their loved ones, but planning for an island vacation doesn’t have to stop here. Grab one of ISLANDS 2007 calendars and mark the days away until it’s time to sail away. The calendar runs for $11.97 from ISLANDS magazine and can be purchased here. To make it that much better they even have an extra island photo for January 2008 so your planning can take you further if necessary.
