Atlantic City hotel vying for ‘Jersey Shore’ tourists

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the “Jersey Shore” debacle, but it’s true I can’t get enough of the super-fist-pumping-hair-bumping promotions hotels are doing to cater to wanna-be Guidos and Guidettes.

The most recent hotel vying for the attention of “Jersey Shore” fans is none other than The Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City,
site of episode 7 of the hot MTV reality show. Get your spray tan on and get a load of this deal:

The “Jersey Shore Package” includes:

– Overnight accommodations in a standard guest room starting at $878 per night per room, or $4,230 per night for the suite where cast members stayed
– One dinner at Il Verdi, the resort’s Italian restaurant
– Breakfast at Seaside Café
– Gift certificate to the Tropicana Salon, good for a “Jersey Shore Do” (for girls, guidette poufs with bumpits and for guys a guido “blow-out” ala Pauly D)
– A room service basket stocked with Italian delights, including (but not limited to) Italian cured meats, bread sticks and biscotti
– VIP admission to Providence nightclub and complimentary IN Cards which give access to nightclubs, food and beverage and parking discounts and more.

The “Jersey Shore” package is available through June 26, 2010. If you go, please take pictures of your new ‘do.

‘Jersey Shore’ seeks out hotels for next season in Miami

Rumor has it MTV is moving its popular and controversial show “Jersey Shore” to Miami for its second season, but where will the show put its castmates?

According to the Miami Herald, MTV producers are scoping out hotels in South Beach instead of renting a beach house, a la Jersey Shore, season one. But where does one put “The Situation” and “Pauly D”? What hotel says “Snookie”? I’m actually not sure how to approach this…

So far, many Miami hotels including the Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons have rejected the invite to host the castmates. But, others aren’t turning away these raucous guests. The Herald claims The Clevelander, an Ocean Drive hotel that bolts down its beds to accommodate partying guests, and the South Beach Hotel Group, which is known among the party crowd as a ‘crash pad hotel’ wouldn’t mind the Jersey Shore affiliation. And why would they? If the beds are bolted down and the crash pads are stable, why not throw a party worthy of an MTV reality show.

Word to the wise from this hotel reviewer: Claiming your hotel was the spot for season two of the Jersey Shore debacle might not bode well for future reservations. Then again, I’ve never slept in a room where the bed was bolted to the ground.

Surf’s up, East Coast!

Although Hurricane Bill is playing havoc with weekend travel plans for many on the East Coast, it’s proving to be a landmark event for surfers up and down the Eastern Seaboard. This Saturday and Sunday are shaping up to be some of the biggest wave days in recent memory, and the excitement among Eastern wave riders is palpable.

With sustained winds at over 100 MPH, Hurricane Bill has been whipping the wave action on Eastern beaches into a frenzy. At the time of this post, North Carolina’s Outer Banks, was experiencing wave action of 16 to 20 feet, while Maryland, the Jersey Shore, Long Island and Cape Cod can expect waves of anywhere from 9 to 15 feet in height. In Bermuda, which has taken the full brunt of the storm, waves have been cresting as high as 30 to 40 feet!

Considering the average wave size for most of the Eastern U.S., you can expect experienced surfers to be heading to the beach this weekend in droves. For less experienced surfers and beachgoers, this is definitely a weekend to stay off the shore, as strong rip currents and unexpected wave action are going to make for extremely dangerous conditions. Do you happen to live near the water? Let us know how it’s looking this weekend in the comments.
