Photo Of The Day: Lyme Regis Rainbow

It’s not often that you see both points of a rainbow, much less capture it on film. Flickr user Matt Coats did both in today’s Photo of the Day, taken in Lyme Regis, a coastal town on England‘s Heritage Coast. Lyme Regis is known for its preponderance of pre-historic fossils, but with phenomena like this rainbow, one has to wonder whether pots of gold also line the coast.

Do you have your own jaw-dropping photographs of natural phenomena? Upload your travel shots to the Gadling Flickr Pool and your image could be selected as our Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: Bending Creek

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member `James Wheeler who captured this image titled “Bending Creek” at Squamish-Lillooet, British Columbia, CA, using a Nikon D5000.

James was on a three-week road trip through British Columbia out of Vancouver, exploring Penticton, Champion Lakes, Moyie Lake, Waterton lakes, Kootenay National Park, Banff, Jasper, Yoho National Park, Glacier National Park and Sun peaks.

Camping most of the way, James planned on staying at a hotel every five days or so to gain Internet access so he could upload photos.

Upload your best shots to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. Several times a week we choose our favorite images from the pool as Photos of the Day.

Tips for getting featured: in your Flickr account, check “Privacy and Permissions,” and check “yes” on “Allow others to share your stuff.” Adding information about your image does not hurt your chances either.

Photo Of The Day: Summer In Lisbon

Summer in Lisbon is usually pleasantly warm; seldom does Portugal‘s capital swelter. From this vantage point along the Calçada do Duque, a prime tourist zone, clear skies and colorful bunting render Lisbon especially welcoming. Think about a short Lisbon break for a few minutes: good strong coffee and egg tarts for breakfast; grilled sardines and a nice vinho verde for lunch; and an evening stroll before a leisurely dinner.

Flickr user (flicts) snapped this photo earlier this month. Upload your summer images of other European capitals in full blush of summer to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. We choose our favorites from the pool to be Photos of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: Flying To Iceland

Today’s Photo of the Day may seem a bit pedestrian: it’s a cup of (likely) mediocre airplane coffee. But the napkin comes with a fun fact about Icelandic settler Ingólfur Arnarson, whose trip from Norway took four days, and there were no napkins. Too bad he couldn’t fly Iceland Air, like Flickr user shapes of dreams, who snapped this on her way to Reykjavik. Bonus points for her stylish nail color, which she dubs Blue Lagoon. It’s a fun way to learn a little about your destination while enjoying one of air travel‘s last freebies.

Photo Of The Day: Amateur Photographers At Big Sur

How often do you arrive at a famous monument or stunning vista and encounter a line of amateur photographers peering through camera lenses and iPhone screens? It seems that as a culture we’ve become more intent on capturing the perfect shot than on taking a moment to be still and appreciate the beauty of what’s in front of us. In today’s Photo of the Day, Flickr user David Lytle trains his camera on the photographers instead of the view at Big Sur, California, perhaps to make us more aware of how photography can both add to and detract from the experience of traveling.

Do you have your own travel photo that doubles as a commentary? Upload your travel shots to the Gadling Flickr Pool and your image could be selected as our Photo of the Day.
