Photo Of The Day: Sunny Side Up

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member oilfighter who captured this image titled Sunny Side Up in Yellowstone National Park.

Oilfighter tells us, “I’ve always wanted to see the Grand Prismatic Pool, so on my way up to Mammoth, I took a short, but extremely steep and slippery hike (I almost rolled down the hill on my way down) to look over midway geyser basin. The color was incredible.”

“The wind was blowing hard, making all kinds of swirls with the steam. I stacked every single piece of filter I had with me, and managed to get a 2-sec. exposure in mid afternoon. Each image was different, because of the ever-shifting wind. I chose this image, because the steam trail is leading you into the center.”

Photo Of The Day: Squirrel Graffiti

Squirrel graffiti lightens up this bit of industrial gray. (Who is this little maroon buddy? Is he a well-known cartoon figure or the work of a single artist? Anyone know?) Flickr user Taylor McConnell caught this bug-eyed squirrel doing his thing last week in Bonn-Beuel, Germany.

Super local stencils and graffiti are among the most exciting visual elements around. We’d love to see more images of graffiti you’ve chanced upon while on the road. Upload your best snaps of graffiti (and other subjects) to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. Photos of the Day are chosen from our favorites in the pool.

Video Of The Day: ‘Line Of Sight’ Trailer From The 2012 Bicycle Film Festival

While most eyes are on the Tour de France, there’s a much more intriguing form of cycling that’s quickly becoming a phenomenon: underground bicycle messenger racing.

Yes, it’s a real thing, and it appears to be spreading. Filmmaker Lucas Brunelle spent more than a decade profiling and documenting messenger cultures around the world, and he recently released “Line of Sight,” a 60-minute documentary film that premiered Saturday at the 2012 Bicycle Film Festival in New York City. According to the description:

This is bike riding like you’ve never seen before, in gripping first-person perspective through the most hectic city streets, on expressways in Mexico City, over the frozen Charles River, under the Mediterranean Sea, across the Great Wall of China and deep into the jungles of Guatemala.

Sounds much more gripping than the winding, tree-lined roads of France.

Photo Of The Day: All The Way To The Islands

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member James Wheeler who captured this image titled “All The Way To The Islands” in North Vancouver, British Columbia, CA, using a Nikon D5000.

James describes the image: “Lynn peak is a short hike from North Vancouver and offers a great view of Burnaby from the end. This morning I was able to see all the way to the Islands to the West of Vancouver.”

Photo Of The Day: Delhi Train

This Delhi train shot by Flickr user clee130 is moody and atmospheric. Devoid of color, it is easily distinguished from typical images of India, which turn on vibrant energy. This snapshot of India feels quiet, pensive and utterly subdued.

The image also leaves me with at least two unanswerable questions. Where is this kid going and where did he get that awesome shirt?

Upload your best moody trains photos to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. We choose our favorites from the batch to be Photos of the Day.
