Photo Of The Day: Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon, in Arizona, is a much photographed bit of the American landscape – a place so distinctive and photogenic that it’s been featured in many a portrait of the American West. Antelope Canyon is located on Navajo land in Page, Arizona, close to the Arizona-Utah state line.

This particular image was snapped by Flickr user oilfighter, who has lots of other striking images of the American West in his personal Flickr archive.

Photo Of The Day: Tibetan Travelers

One of the travel world’s more annoying debates is backpacker vs. rolling suitcase. Those with backpacks scoff at travelers wheeling suitcases along cobblestones, while the roll-aboard lovers might want to avoid the connotation that “backpacker” implies. Even backpackers are being criticized now for taking too much. In the end, it’s just a place for one’s stuff. We can all agree that seeing pilgrims walking for many miles with very little stuff at all is pretty impressive. Today’s Photo of the Day is from Tibet, where some pilgrims are returning from a trip. Flickr user abhishakey photographed the travelers coming from Lhasa, where thousands travel each year to visit the Jokhang Temple with little more than a prayer wheel.

Photo Of The Day: Jomalig Island

As temperatures in New York City rise to a sweltering 90 degrees, my mind can’t help but wander to the beach – particularly this secluded strip on Jomalig Island, the easternmost part of the Philippines‘ Quezon province. With no airports, no hotels and few amenities, this destination is the epitome of “off-the-beaten-path,” as Flickr user Galwin notes in his description for today’s Photo of the Day. It appears to be a far cry from summer in the city, that’s for sure.

Does a photo of your favorite secluded beach belong here? Upload your travel shots to the Gadling Flickr Pool and your image could be selected as our Photo of the Day.

Photo of the Day: Along The Shore

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member James Wheeler who captured the image in Kitsilano, Vancouver, BC using a Nikon D5000. The image is titled Along the Shore.

James add this caption to the image: “When the tide goes out and the wind is down, the pools of water along the shore are nice and calm.”

Upload your best shots to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. Several times a week we choose our favorite images from the pool as Photos of the Day.

Tips for getting featured: In your Flickr account, check “Privacy and Permissions,” and check “yes” on “Allow others to share your stuff.” Adding information about your image does not hurt your chances either.

Photo of the Day – Daejeon National Cemetery

National cemeteries are symbolically loaded places, and Daejeon National Cemetery in Daejeon, South Korea is no exception. Completed in 1985, the cemetery was designed, in the words of the official cemetery website, “to worship patriots, patriotic martyrs, and the souls of all the fallen heroes and the war dead.”

This image was taken by LadyExpat, a prolific Flickr user. Its subject is immediately recognizable as a military memorial. The photographer’s vantage point renders it particularly interesting.
