The Gadling crew is here in Chicago for a team summit and the weather is working in our favor! There’s a Cubs game this afternoon, and then several cool events going down this evening, including a meet-and-greet with our team.

WHERE: The Goose Island Clybourn Brewpub, 1800 N Clybourn
WHEN: Saturday, May 16th, around 10:30 or 11PM
HOW YOU WILL FIND US: We’ll be the loud ones.
This is my first time in Chicago and, having been here for less than 24 hours so far, I can say this town really rocks out! I hope some of you will join us in the festivities this evening.

This photo, which comes to us from urbanwonder, really captures the electric and vibrant nightlife here in the Windy City.

If you have some great travel shots you’d like to share, be sure to upload them to the Gadling pool on Flickr. We might just pick one as our Photo of the Day!

I found myself outside of the Minneapolis – Saint Paul international airport for one of the first times in my life this past weekend, in stark contrast to the dozens of times that I’ve passed through it’s flagellating halls.

It’s actually quite nice. During the spring and summer times, the land of 10,000 lakes boasts myriad picturesque landscapes, including the above shot taken by Patrick Powers over at Flickr. Nice shot, Patrick.

Of all the dance forms, I prefer the kind that is wholly expressive and completely free. Being from Hawaii, I guess it would come as no surprise that fire dancing is one of my favorite spectacles. There’s something both dangerous and totally awe-inspiring when you see illuminated images like the one depicted in this photo, as well as feel the heat exuding from the performance and fire itself.

While fire dancing originated in Polynesia, the dance in this photo took place as a hill tribe performance in Chiang Mai, Thailand and comes to us from Pureboy, who appears to have plenty of other great photos from his trip to Thailand in 2007.

I’m a vegetarian, so the sight of these chickens in the window elicited a very strong gurgle from my stomach. Before college, however, I was a meat-eater. I didn’t have my first salad until I was 18. My parents would frequent Chinatown, and I would gawk at the meat in the window in a similar fashion as I am now.

I love Peking duck. I miss the taste of crispy skin with that tangy sauce on a steamed rice bun. When I lived in Beijing one summer during college, I would have Peking duck every weekend. That was the real deal. I miss fresh Chinese meat.

This appetizing (to some) photo comes to us from jerry.r.lem. The steam in this Bostonian Chinatown store window, the triad of colors, and the obscure meat on the right just makes me want to take a stroll in my neighborhood Chinatown and remember the good ‘ole days, when Mom would buy bok choi for less than a dollar, Dad would treat us to dim sum, or I could watch rice noodles being made through the Look Fun window.

Tickets to Germany have been on super sale for the past few weeks, as they normally are this time of the year. The problem is that most budget tickets are into Frankfurt, which hasn’t got a ton of exciting tourist attractions. Luckily, a variety of beautiful cities like Cologne are nearby, where the above picture of the Kölner Dom was taken by rafapdalbem1. Neat shot.
