Condé Nast Traveler Photo Contest

When Condé Nast Traveler’s decided to celebrate its 20th birthday, the magazine decided to do so by giving away a $20,000 trip to anywhere in the world. Of course, nothing is free in life; in order to win the trip, readers had to submit their very best travel photograph and hope that it stood out among all others submitted.

The result was 29,068 entries.

The magazine has kindly posted all 29,068 of the submitted photographs online and has kindly sorted them into categories. So if you are sitting at home bored today, and want to travel the world virtually, click on China, Greece, Sunset, Romance, People, Culture or any of the other 26 categories and start surfing away.

Oh, and click here to check out the 20 finalists. I’m sure every photographer represented can’t stop dreaming about that $20,000 vacation. My favorite? Yak Skin Boat by Paul Krynicki (above).

Conde Nast Contest

Oooh…I love easy contests. The only problem with them is that if they’re too easy, lots of people will enter them, and my chances of winning go down. Oh well.

To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, Conde Nast is sponsoring one of those easy contests. All you have to do is upload a photo that captures a “memorable travel moment” and include a brief explanation of why it’s memorable. (I told you it was easy!) Once you submit an image, it becomes part of an online gallery, on which other people may comment and vote. (Let us know if you add an image, and we’ll head over and vote for you. It’s not against the rules!)

The grand prize is a $20,000 dream trip to anywhere on earth! However, each day the contest is open, a winner will be selected to win another, smaller — but still great — prize. The contest runs until April 22, which gives you plenty of time to read the rules and upload several images. Good luck!

STAPLES Hometown Views Photo Contest

After reading through all the official rules for this Hometown Views Photo Contest I spotted a few days ago while standing in Staples, I must say the prizes are worth chasing after and it shouldn’t be too painful to enter. To start you must be an amateur photographer (meaning you haven’t been compensated for photography in the last five years) and the photo you submit must not have been previously published. That’s the major rules from what I gather aside from age, residence, etc. Now all one must do is submit a photo that tells a tale about their hometown; a photo that says, “Hey, Omaha Rocks!” or “Look at how super Seattle is!” Give your photo a caption 15 words or less, be the Grand Prize winner and you and a friend can be on your way out of Kansas and into Iceland!
The trip is a 5 day/4 night photo adventure trip through Reykjavik and includes a pretty swanky hotel stay and the opportunity to check out some very, very cool tours. If you don’t nab first there are still 40 Finalist prizes to shoot for and they too aren’t that bad looking. You’ll need to check out the STAPLES website for additional info, but imagine, your photo, poster size, sold to thousands, and royalties. Nice!

Contest ends March 15, 2007.
