I’m off to the UK today, pushing back from Detroit airport at precisely 6:15 to coincide with this article’s publication. After spending the tail end of the workweek at Loughborough University I’ve scheduled some downtime in London where the British Museum, captured above by ultraclay!, is one of my top destinations.

Though I’ve been there several times, you just can’t beat the feeling of walking into the central atrium to stare up at the magnificent ceiling above the main reading room. And once you manage to pry your eyes away? You’ve got about two weeks of content to browse through in the halls of the museum. How exciting.

See you tomorrow in London, and thanks to Marilyn and Janelle at the ITB for the rest of my itinerary.

Snow came to Michigan early this year, and as I shift from looking out to the back deck to scrolling through the extended forecast, it looks like it’s here to stay. Winter is usually tough around here, but as I get older in the Midwest it seems that every season get a little longer and colder.

Back where I grew up in rural Kalamazoo, I was often confronted with scenes like this on my way to school, cold, foggy snowscapes against a bleak December sky. In a way, it’s peaceful and it reminds me of the pleasures of being home in the silent, motionless winter.

gtetonswy shot this image that looks like it could have been across the street from my childhood home. It brings back a lot of good memories.

I found myself in Dublin this past weekend, visiting the Irish city with a few close friends from my youth. While the city isn’t particularly known for its architectural masterpieces, one of my favorite aspects of the city is the brickwork all over the place — on the buildings, around the Guinness factory, covering the street.

This photo by Mister Rad shows that work around some of the front doors in Dublin and is an excellent, colorful illustration of architecture around town.

With Continental‘s fall fares well underway, I’ve been toying around with the idea of going down to Honduras for a long weekend this November. Just off of the north coast of the Central American country are the Bay Islands, home to some magnificent beaches, crystal clear water, fantastic snorkeling and this sweet starfish. Yeah. Maybe it’s time to pull the trigger on that trip.

This year, I was fortunate enough to enjoy autumn in two places, earlier, in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and a little later, in Michigan. While both areas have had the same weather recently, fall colors begin to pop earlier out east, so the last few weeks have been fantastic around Boston. Now, home in Ann Arbor, we’ve just about reached our peak.
