REI Snow Report brings detailed ski reports to your iPhone

REI has teamed up with mobile application developer Zumobi to design a snow report app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The application delivers reports from the US, Canada, Europe, Argentina, Australia, Chile and New Zealand. In total, over 200 resorts are available, and users can pick their 12 favorite to be added to the cool rotating menu.

Resort information is very impressive – you’ll get the latest snowfall, current snow depth, temperatures, conditions, the status of lifts and trails, and even the latest Tweets made by the resort.

In addition to this, you can also access maps, a five day forecast, webcams and contact information.

Of course, since REI commissioned the app, you can also find your nearest REI store, follow REI Tweets and go shopping for new gear, right inside the app.

Daily deal – Burton Entourage Insulated Jacket for $99

Still freezing your backside off? Unless that damn Groundhog tells us that winter will be over within the next week, my deal for today could come in quite handy for those in cold climates (or those that enjoy wintersports).

The Burton Entourage Insulated Jacket is currently on clearance at REI.com for just $99.93. The jacket is available in 3 sizes, and 3 different colors.

The jacket has a long list of features, including a “jacket to pants interface”, which is a snazzy way of saying it has a neat way of keeping snow out of your butt when you fall off your board.

My daily deal for today is for the REI Traverse daypack. This (women’s) daypack only comes in red and offers a huge amount of storage space.

Inside the spacious pack is a special sleeve for holding a hydration pack as well as pockets for smaller items like a compass, multi-tool or a flashlight.

The bag has been specially designed for woman, and has a molded backpanel with air channels to help keep your back cool and dry.

The REI Traverse daypack normally retails for just under $70, but is currently on clearance for just $19.83.

Daily deal – REI Super Summer clearance – up to 50% off online and in-store

Outdoors fans, pay attention! REI is holding its yearly super Summer clearance, with 50% off 100’s of items. You’ll find $10 North Face shorts as well as some discounts on “high tech” products, like this $4 memory card pouch.

The sale starts today, and lasts until Labor day (September 1st). If you are not a fan of online shopping, or simply prefer to browse the racks for your bargains, then head on over to your local REI store, as many of these bargains can be found at their retail locations too. In total, over 500 products are on sale, so there really should be something for everyone.

Be on the lookout for prices ending with the magic .83 number, as those will be the sale items. And just to avoid confusion; the prices are “as marked”, there are no further discounts.

Of course, since this is a summer discount, most of the fashion on sale is being discounted to make way for winter gear, but unless you plan to gain a few sizes by next year, it should be a cheap way to get your gear purchased for next years trip.
