When I’m looking for inspiration for fantasy vacations, I love finding images shot in places located on the complete opposite side of the planet from where I’m sitting in Houston, Texas. And so it’s not surprising that this amazingly serene shot shared by r0gue shad0w does the trick: it was apparently captured on Railay Beach in southern Thailand. Perfection. And the best part of this calming image? It was captured using an Olympus point-and-shoot. Told you you don’t need an expensive SLR to take an amazing shot.

I really like the lighting effects in this lighthouse photo by Flickr user insEyedout. According to the tags it was taken at sunrise at the Ponce de Leon Inlet in Florida, and those first rays of light are starting to peek over the horizon. Meanwhile it’s still dark at the top and in the foreground, creating some interesting silhouettes in the palm trees and in the shadows on the fence and lighthouse. Finally, I’m most impressed because this photo was taken at sunrise, not sunset. That’s dedication to the craft! Nice work.

Misha Logvinov captured this picture near the summit of Yuriga-take in Japan, which rises to nearly 10,000 feet. What caught my eye were the breathtaking colors. I’m not sure if a filter was used or if there was any post processing involved, but this picture certainly carries some impact. It might be best viewed in it’s full size, in fact.

Flickr user sgoralnick submitted this amazing shot of a few of his friends enjoying the sunrise at a New York beach on Long Island.

Those who live by the rule that says you can’t shoot into the sun would be missing out on these kind of shots. Then again, they also wouldn’t be the type out skinny dipping on a cool New York fall morning.

In all my days spent on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, I never once saw this turtle or a sunrise in Mokolua. I have said many times that my days on Oahu are done, but this shot here makes me wonder if I might be missing something more. Thanks to Rob Webster for plugging this one into the Gadling Flickr pool. Very nice shot!
