I found myself outside of the Minneapolis – Saint Paul international airport for one of the first times in my life this past weekend, in stark contrast to the dozens of times that I’ve passed through it’s flagellating halls.

It’s actually quite nice. During the spring and summer times, the land of 10,000 lakes boasts myriad picturesque landscapes, including the above shot taken by Patrick Powers over at Flickr. Nice shot, Patrick.

After being away from home for a month, you could say this photo is a sight for sore eyes. Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved my time in Cuba: the beaches are pristine and the water is crystal blue and clear. But something about the beaches of Hawaii (and in this case Maui) are so special and identifiable.

This photo, which comes to us from superdisco, does a great job capturing the tranquility of Maui’s moon-shaped Molokini island, the romance of Hawaiian sunsets, and the awesome silhouette of a lone (and leafless!) tree.

March marks the shifting of weather from cold to tolerable or from warm to cool. For those of you who are looking forward to warmer days and a little more fire, even a brief glance at this gorgeous photo from tysonwilliams will brighten your day.

Talk about fire in the sky — and I’m not alluding to the aurora borealis this time, I’m actually referring to that bright orange, fiery glow that is perfectly captured at sunset in Cannes.

Buck Forester is a long-time photo contributor to Gadling’s Flickr group. Buck discovered a rock that was lit from behind by the sun setting behind a rock. With an exposure of 1/4 sec, he captured the explosion of water at Rodeo Beach in California at precisely the right moment.

The Santa Ana winds picked up this week, swirling over Southern California and bringing unnaturally warm temperatures for this time of the year. It’s a great time for a business trip from the snowy grips of the Midwest.

Matteo.Mazzoni‘s photo of this lonely traveler on the California beach echoes some of my experiences this week, as I wandered around North Park, Mission Beach and the Gaslamp, absorbing the city in sandals and a t-shirt. Tomorrow it will be too early to leave.
