Photo of the Day (9.19.09)

Nothing compares to the sunsets in Asia. At dusk every day you could expect to find me on a patio outside (preferably by the Mekong River), sipping on a local beer, and snapping photo after photo of the red glowing sun. The great thing about this photo is it appears to be naturally sepia-toned — a perfect blend of old with new.

Today’s Photo of the Day comes to us from flicts, who has traveled to such places as Vietnam, Ireland, Kiev, and Tibet. If you have some great travel shots you’d like to share, be sure to upload them to the Gadling pool on Flickr. We might just pick one as our Photo of the Day!

If life ever gives you the opportunity to drive through Wyoming, do it. Ash Crowe took this shot on a road trip to California, and reminded me of those feelings I’ve had in a car with miles and miles of visible landscape in either direction. There’s a sensation of awe and wonder at the vastness and beauty.

Once, when we were driving through Wyoming, my son looked about and said, “We are the only one here.” Isn’t this sky absolutely gorgeous?

As we wind down Beach Day here at Gadling, it just seems appropriate to feature this stunning image captured by Patrick Powers and shared in our Gadling Flickr pool. Patrick aptly calls this shot, “If it’s a tequila sunrise, does that make this a vodka sunset?”

I dunno, Patrick, but I like the way you think. Meet me at the bar to the right of this image?

I’m a sucker for a good sunset shot. And this one by Cazimiro made today’s Photo of the Day an easy selection. This picture was taken on the Greek island of Mykonos during their honeymoon with a Nikon D300. Fantastic job! Now go on and enjoy your honeymoon Cazimiro! You’ll never top this!

Cazimiro also included a link to view the photo over a black background. I had no idea Flickr had that option. Thanks!

Are you a Flickr user who’d like to share a travel related picture or two for our consideration? Submit it to Gadling’s Flickr group right now! We just might use it for our Photo of the Day!

When I’m looking for inspiration for fantasy vacations, I love finding images shot in places located on the complete opposite side of the planet from where I’m sitting in Houston, Texas. And so it’s not surprising that this amazingly serene shot shared by r0gue shad0w does the trick: it was apparently captured on Railay Beach in southern Thailand. Perfection. And the best part of this calming image? It was captured using an Olympus point-and-shoot. Told you you don’t need an expensive SLR to take an amazing shot.
