Would You Like Polonium With That?

While the popular sushi restaurant chain Itsu, famous for the recent poisoning incident involving a “Russian spy” Litvinenko, is hurting in London, the new branch that just opened downtown New York is apparently doing quite well, according to a NY Sun article.

Does that mean Americans are getting immune to the different security threats out there? Or does that mean that sushi, not Starbucks, is the new cosmopolitan answer to world peace?

Either way, I hear the “dynamite miso soup” is a hit. Should you be in the financial district of NY, please test it and report back.

Jasmine Lounge

As some of you may remember I am on the road touring for HP. While I’m working very hard out here in the Northeast I’m making sure I grab every opportunity possible to stay far away from chain restaurants to try the local and new tasty flavors. I do this mainly because I love getting the word out on good food as well as bad food on menus less explored, but also because it gives something to serve you here on Gadling. (Yes, I know – everything I do, I do it for you.)

My latest stop for lunch was at the Jasmine Lounge found in Wilmington, Delaware. The Zagat rated restaurant serves Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisines. When I drove by the first time all I spotted was Sushi so I had my mind set on a roll of Hamachi with scallion and some miso, although the Vietnamese dishes sounded extremely tempting too. Considering how I was on a late lunch break, the place was pretty quiet. There were a couple of patrons scattered throughout the large size restaurant and lounge. I soaked in the silence as I slurped down my miso soup. Something about the seaweed in this particular bowl was extra delicious. The Hamachi and scallion roll was equally tasty, though I’d have to say it didn’t knock my socks off. I also ended up ordering the house salad, which was okay, but the ginger dressing didn’t thrill me either. So my overall thoughts about the food – it’s good. There are tons of other items I’d love to come back and sample one day, but I don’t know what the chances of me spending time in Wilmington are like outside of work related reasons.

Anyhow, in the evening the restaurant turns into a lively lounge where people drop in for drinks, eats and after work gossip I’m sure. If you’re in Wilmington one day stop in to fill up and share your own thoughts.

Shogun Sushi

Almost everywhere I turned in Jackson, WY I had someone tossing out a restaurant recommendation or two. This absolutely delighted me, however it is during these times when everyone wants to provide you with the most delicious dish on the most delicious dish, that you aren’t quite ready to saddle up and dig right in because your taste buds are craving something totally different. For instance, while walking around the Old Faithful gift shop trying to kill time before the big geyser blew, the manager heard my partner and me talking about where we should dine. Being as helpful as can be, he suggested we go to the nearby lodge that made an amazing bison burger or something. My stomach immediately felt heavy. As much as I like red meats I was in no mood for anything that could be the size of a small dinosaur. I wanted some lighter international fare which leads me to the moment I actually had the chance to nab some in Jackson.

It was the day after our big adventures in the park that we walked into Shogun Sushi. For the most part Shogun Sushi wasn’t knock-your-socks-off sushi, but it was decent. I ordered spicy hamachi maka and my pal had an order of shrimp tempura. I enjoyed my dish, but my friend found his only to be okay. Both of us each had a side of tasty plain inari. At Shogun Sushi they offer stuffed inari with items like crab, tuna, etc. It’s a bit unusual, but our super friendly waiter said it sales. The food was only slightly expensive considering everything in the mountains is slightly expensive, but it is certainly worth stopping in if your belly isn’t ready for bison burger.
