For today’s Video of the Day we’re traveling to China, where this short video from Vimeo gives a glimpse of Guangzhou, the third largest city in the country. I like this video because it first offers an up close look at artists and other locals going about their day to day routine, and then really wows viewers with some dazzling time-lapse photography. Be sure to look out for the twisting metal frame of the Canton Tower, the tallest structure in China where visitors can take in the city and surrounding area from an observation deck more than 1,600 feet off the ground.

Located in California‘s high desert, Joshua Tree is one of those places that epitomizes the term “starkly beautiful.” With harsh landscapes that are nevertheless filled with life, it is a destination that offers a peaceful solitude unlike any other that I have experienced in my travels. But to truly experience its full majesty visitors need to wait until after sunset. On a clear night the skies will reveal a billion stars overhead and make you feel humbled at their staggering luminescence. That feeling is captured oh so well in this short time-lapse video that was recently shot in Joshua Tree. It begins with ominous looking clouds that soon give way to a brilliant display of the heavens above. It is a remarkable reminder of just how beautiful our world can truly be if we just remember to take time to look at it every once in awhile.

Time-Lapse Video Captures Montreal On Fire
Time-lapse videos are a dime a dozen these days, but once in a while something unexpected is captured. In the above video by E Kital on Vimeo, a simple time lapse of Montreal turned into something much more dramatic when a fire broke out in the old city. As reported by NBC News, the blaze lit up the night sky and provided some eerie contrast against the serentity that’s usually core in a time lapse. It’s a great unique perspective on a very unfortunate event.

The video shows the progression of Sandy from noon on October 29 until 9:30 a.m. on October 30. Keep your eye out for a shift at minute 0:42, when electricity went out and downtown Manhattan plunged into darkness.

London’s Heathrow airport is among the world’s busiest airports for passengers, with the total number of travelers passing through in the first half of 2012 topping out at over 46 Million. Think about that number for a moment and try to put it in context. It’s not easy, is it?
