Photographer Michael Hughes buys a lot of souvenirs, but he doesn’t just give them away to nonplussed relatives. He snaps pictures of these tchochkies in place of their original counterparts. It may sound uninspiring to portray a simple object in its proper context, but Hughes does such a clever job of giving new life to ephemera that I couldn’t help but smile at his work.
Hughes shares his whimsical perspective on such landmarks as the Statue of Liberty, the Brandenburg Gate, and the Eiffel Tower in his Souvenir Flickr set.
