Fun and Cheap Disneyland Eats

If you aren’t the type to be invited into Disneyland’s secret restaurant, (I’m not) here is another Disneyland dining option that might be even better and it’s endorsed by high school students. If you know anything at all about high school students, they are about the hardest folks to please.

Several years ago, I took twelve high school students from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Disneyland for the day. Yes, we flew out on Southwest’s first flight out and returned on the last flight back. A friend of mine recommended that we go to The Golden Horseshoe for lunch. This is a casual dining place that has a Western revue show, just the thing I knew they’d avoid if I left it up to them. I bribed them with a free lunch. Lunch was on my friend if they agreed to go. They went and they had a blast chowing down chili and French fries. I think one of the students was included in one of the acts.

Here is a tip. If you are going to Disneyland, head to The Golden Horseshoe to make a reservation as soon as you arrive in the gate. There are several shows throughout the day, but you can’t just show up. Also, head back to the restaurant about 15 minutes before your scheduled time so you can get a good seat. It’s not a huge restaurant so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. It is fun to sit closer to the stage because that’s how you may become an instant performer. At least that’s how it was when we were there. If you like hokey, but good entertainment and food that doesn’t cost a bundle, this is it. If you laugh loud enough, perhaps those folks in that secret restaurant will wonder who is having all the fun.
