Photo of the Day (8/8/07)

Since I am in Seattle right now, this photo by allysdad struck me. Years ago, I took a photography course at the University of New Mexico that nurtured my appreciation of black and white photos. I love the blurry, romantic quality of the rest of the city against the neon, futuristic look of the Space Needle. There is such a contrast between the architectural styles here. I’ve been struck by how the glass, metal and clean, crisp lines of the modern buildings are mixed in with the ornate details of the brick and marble buildings that were erected years ago. The city embraces both and this photo somehow captures this essence.

When we were scurrying about with the other tourists around the Space Needle earlier today (Tuesday) though, I didn’t feel quite as calm as this picture looks. Now, that it is night and I am savoring a glass of wine back at our friends’ house, this photo is exactly how I feel at the moment. The house is quiet; everyone is in bed. Shhhhhh.
