Boston’s Museum of Fine Art is going mobile. The museum announced Wednesday that it will begin selling fine art for $1.99 an image, which users can download to their cellphones or other mobile devices. Art enthusiasts can also subscribe to a monthly plan that includes up to five images per month, plus a special bonus image. And, users will be able to access prints that are light sensitive and thus rarely on display. Mobile users can also text the museum and type in a keyword to download (fees still apply).
Museum spokesperson Kim French explained that the museum wants “to help people make art a great part of their lives.”
I wonder if it’s the same experience as trying to watch Star Wars on your video iPod — somehow the magic gets lost when you’re squinting at a screen shorter than your thumb.
